Mark Maps Lake Forest

& Winnetka

From Chronicler to Cartographer!

From great moments in our collective Chicago history, to great maps of

towns on the North Shore,

Mark has been commissioned by

both Winnetka and Lake Forest to artistically render the villages.

The cleverly detailed pieces demonstrate the wide range of local resources distributed around

both communities.

Fall 2016

The Best Fall in 108 Years!

Well, at least around

If you happened to have just landed in Chicago during the Summer of 2016, you might not have quite understood the manic (not panic) nature of life around these parts.

Yes, there is a Santa Claus, a Great Pumpkin, an Easter Bunny, and a Fairy Godmother and they collectively pooled their resources to influence the Gods of Baseball that the suffering had to stop. The Billy Goat was offered up as ancient sacrifice to the distant past

and the Cubbies took it to the

Indians and brought home

the World Series.

As our chronicler of great moments in our collective Chicago history,

Mark set out to record history.

You can see three major pieces in the right-hand column, order here online, or make the pilgrimmage to the McMahon Gallery located in Highwood.

Don't forget to ask Mark how soon the Mugs will be ready, because nobody in this town wants to be without one of those this coming Holiday season!

It's Spooky Around

 these Parts!

It's that time of year again when the the leaves start to turn, the air gets crisp, and so do the apples.

With the McMahon Gallery located in Highwood, we get to have a weekend filled with the color orange.

Pumpkin Fest in Highwood

is a great community tradition that takes over the downtown for a

weekend every October

This fall, during Pumpkin Fest, McMahon Gallery and the Village of Highwood hosted the creative genius

of brother Hugh McMahon, who pioneered the craft of Pumpkin Sculpture. His work has appeared on the Today Show (every Halloween), Good Morning America, MTV, the Martha Stewart Show, People, Time, Life, and Vogue.

Summer 2016

The Democratic Convention

Keeping with the tradition established by dad Franklin as illustrator-reporters and witnesses to  great moments  in American history, Mark attended the Democratic National Convention this past Summer

in Philadelphia.

Mark was invited to sit in the Clinton box and proceeded to record the moment when Clinton accepted the nomination and balloons were dropped. According to Mark, it was a festive, upbeat experience in the exercise of the Democratic process.

Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society Presents:

Local Legends:

Franklin & Mark McMahon:

 A Conversation

with Bill Kurtis.

At the late October Lake Forest Historical Society special event at Gorton Community Center, Bill Kurtis, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Journalist and Television Producer, interviewed Mark with a look at the lives and works of dad Franklin & Mark.  As illustrator-reporters and witnesses to some of the greatest moments  in American  history, Mark took us for a stroll through the McMahon family history from
his father's experience as

a WWII fighter pilot shot down over Germany, the Civil Rights movement, the Kennedy-Nixon debates... through the "strong" activist women in the family and their contributions the culture... to Mark's own experiences including his rendering of the first space shuttle and its first

tragic accident.

It was a wonderful event, highlighting the art of the family, and its own Peabody and Emmy-award winning resumé as they reviewed the events and moments that shaped the artistic sensibilities and built the McMahon legacy over the past several decades.
